Diversnight at Hobie Beach – 3 Nov

The 7th Annual Diversnight took place tonight at 20:11, at Hobie Beach with Prodive, attempting to reach a new world record of night scuba divers. Diversnight took place in numerous parts of the world, as part of a tradition started in Norway in 2005; About 3000 scuba night divers are expected to take part in this reasonnably new diving event.

The weather in PE could not have been better, with a light breeze, flat sea and a reasonnably good vis!

Rubgy fever in Port Elizabeth

Rugby….rugby….all rugby fans descend onto PE this weekend for the Rugby match that will see the Springbok against the All Blacks. This should be an exciting game! It has been 41 years since the All Blacks have been in town.

The match will take place in the city’s new and beautiful Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and with all tickets sold, it will be packed to its full capacity of 45000.

Billabong Pro J-Bay 2011 (14-24 July)

The Billabong Pro J-Bay 2011 scheduled for 14-24 July will take place at the internationally renowned Supertubes surf break in Jeffreys Bay, 80km from Port Elizabeth.

This is the only African field and the 4th out of a series of 11 making up the 2011 ASP World Tour, which will crown the annual ASP World Surfing Champion, from amongst the world’s top 34 ranked professional surfers. 

Current ASP World Title Race rankings leader Adriano de Souza (BRA), defending champion and local favourite Jordy Smith (ZAF), 10X world champion Kelly Slater (USA), perennial favourites and previous event winners Taj Burrow and fellow Australians Joel Parkinson and Mick Fanning and plenty more expound on why they are frothing to throw on a rashvest and go to work in the waves on the Southern tip of Africa. Supertubes in Jeffreys Bay, just 80 kms from Port Elizabeth is a 300 metre stretch of coastline universally known as one of the world’s top 10 high performance surf breaks.

Easter weekend Splash Festival 2011

The splash festival is on for 4 days this Easter weekend, extending from Humewood beach to Hobie Beach…packed with action and several water sport events such as the Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Ski Classic,; the Nelson Mandela Bay Bell Buoy Challenge (8km Ocean Eco-swim); the P750 Power Boat Racing, and the 3rd round of the SA Jet Ski National Tour…

Wildside Dive festival “divefest” 2011
